Mark & Cheryl Sorell and the Friends & Followers Team - Venture Teams International
Mark grew up as a Missionary Kid in the country of Peru. His parents, Ole and Vera Sorell, were missionaries there for over 30 years with RBMU (Regions Beyond Missionary Union). He attended an MK boarding school in Pucallpa for eight months of the year through out his childhood and has many positive memories during that time. While the jungle adventures were memorable, nothing made an impact quite like the day he gave His life to Christ. Mark is thankful for the many Godly influences in his life as he grew through those years. He attended Briercrest through High School and Bible College and graduated in 1979. Mark traveled with Venture Teams the following year to India, the Philippines and Japan. It was a great opportunity to further make his faith his own by putting it into action. Feeling a need to learn a trade after that experience he became a “metallurgical fusion specialist”, a welder. For thirteen years he worked in that field during which time he married his high school friend, Cheryl Dearing, from Prince Albert, SK. One of the most fruitful experiences they had in the early years was to help plant a church in the Philippines for a year. It was during this time that God planted a seed in their hearts that would lead to their involvement on the staff of Venture Teams. Mark and Cheryl with their four children have been on staff for fifteen years. Mark has been the Executive Director of the organization for five years. Together their passion is to see young people put their faith into action, no matter how small that seed of faith may be.
The Youth in IMCO will not want to miss getting to know Mark and Cheryl Sorell and this fantastic Friends and Followers team!
